Every year our group of Chemical Engineers and technicians are planning where to meet each other after separated from different jobs and companies. In 2016, after 2 years from passing the Board exams, we decided to seek an adventure. Adventure which involves hiking yet refreshing. The second location of our group reunion was in the Masungi Georeserve, Baras, Rizal, Philippines.
Our meeting place would be in Manila City, there it would take 2 hours and 10 mins only to reach Baras by car and only needs PhP 500.00 for fuel. From Ninoy Aquino International Airport it would take about 3 to 3.5 hours to Baras. You won't sleep on this travel as the view of the rural mountains and Rizal City is astonishing!
Upon reaching the Georeserve, we waited on a hut for our turn to be called. There we are being oriented of what Masungi Park is and the rules and regulation on the area.
What you will need:
- Hiking gears: Helmet (provided), comfortable clothes, durable hiking shoes!, water!, and your face towel (you'll need it).
Remember:
- Find your buddy, stay safe and enjoy!
- Maintain park cleanliness!
- No smoking!
- Respect the wildlife by avoiding unnecessary noise!
- Do not take anything, only pictures!
- Tell others about Masungi Geopark.
Activities/Places To See:
- Orientation at Silungan
- Yungib ni Ruben. One of the biggest caves in the georeserve. A must-visit for its stalactites and stalagmites formations.
- Sapot. A metallic platform that is shaped like a spider's web and suspended above limestone rocks.
- Tatay. The highest peak at the Masungi Georeserve and the best place to see the magnificent view of the area.
- Nanay. The second highest peak consisting of five limestone rocks connected by bridges.
- Patak. The air house where you can rest and relax.
- Ditse. To reach this peak, you will need to cross a hanging bridge and climb in a rope ladder. Totally worth the effort as you will get an amazing view from here.
- Duyan. After descending Ditse, you will reach Duyan, a rope hammock that acts as a bridge as well.
- Bayawak. A rope course challenge named after the monitor lizard found in the area.
- Sawa. A hanging bridge that will lead you back to the starting point.
Enjoy the adventure!
